Our Story

Middle School for International Studies and Technology @ Vaughn (M.I.T.@ Vaughn) has been operational since the year 2000 and strives to deliver engaging and rigorous instructional programs to our students. Vaughn has invested in preparing students to engage with academic content through the lens of global issues, multiple perspectives, and through 21st century technology. We have developed a curriculum that exposes our students to real world applications of knowledge and develops each child’s technological skills through the extensive use of technology. In addition, we join our sister High School (Vaughn International Studies Academy-V.I.S.A) to be a part of the International Studies Schools Network (ISSN) whose core mission is to “develop college and career ready, globally competent high school graduates.” We have embedded STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics) to core and elective courses to engage students in the development of critical thinking skills. Furthermore, through such exposure our students are collaborating, problem-solving, and developing in creative expression. Our Jaguar Scholars are also taught to carry themselves respectfully, a way that reflects the values and morals of the school’s philosophy, as outlined in our Charter and Parent Compact. Our mission and vision reflect our dedication to our students and community. M.I.T.@ Vaughn promises to collaborate with parents to redirect student behaviors through positive reteaching methods incorporating Restorative Practices to redirect behaviors. We understand that the middle school years can be very challenging. However, as a school community we unite to guide our young adolescents to  possess the knowledge, skills and habits of mind necessary to work and live in the 21st Century global environment and to become contributing individuals and life-long learners.
